Grab the popcorn and treats! There’s so many good kids’ movies coming out this year. So how did we narrow it down to five? The approach is pretty foolproof. When watching the trailers, we look for a good dose of comedy, action and heart. Let’s dive in! Here’s our top five kids’ movies for 2021.
1. Raya and the Last Dragon
Out now in theaters and on Disney+
This one is already out and getting rave reviews. Dubbed as a “dazzling adventure” and “a must-watch,” this Disney movie is becoming a fast favorite among kids and film critics! In short, Raya is on a quest to find the last dragon to help her fight off an evil force. It’s serious girl power. Don’t miss it.
2. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway
In theaters 14th May 2021
While we knew kids would enjoy the trailer, we weren’t expecting to chuckle ourselves. This sequel is jam packed with adventure. It follows Peter and his furry companions as they run away from home. There are plenty of laughs and lessons to be learnt along the way. This is one of the movies that has been delayed for over a year but, based on the trailer, we think it’ll be worth the wait.
3. Luca
In theaters 18th June 2021
Luca is a sea monster disguised as a young boy. Yep, you read that right! This quirky story is set in a beautiful town on the Italian Riviera. Are you sold yet? It comes out just in time for summer, which is perfect really because we’re bound to crave some gelato after watching it. While an Italian getaway might not be on the cards, we’re going to take Luca as the next best thing.
4. Boss Baby: Family Business
In theaters 17th September 2021
In this sequel, Tim and Ted go undercover to prevent an evil villain from turning toddlers into monstrous brats. For the love of all parents, this is one mission that CANNOT fail! To disguise themselves, the brothers take a magic formula to transform into babies. Hilarity ensues. It comes out in September so you have time to watch the first movie and Netflix series if you haven’t already.
5. Ron’s Gone Wrong
In theaters 22nd October 2021
There’s no trailer yet so we’re taking a bit of a gamble ending our top 5 with Ron’s Gone Wrong. We think it’ll pay off though. It’s about Barney and his robot best friend, Ron. To quote What’s on Disney Plus, “Ron’s hilarious malfunctions launch them into an action-packed journey in which boy and robot come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship.” Say no more. We’re sure the kids will love it. And who are we kidding, we probably will too.
Do you want to know what movie we had to remove? It was Minions: The Rise of Gru. Sadly, it has been postponed to 2022.
